In aus its against the law to return carp to the water, fines of up to $150 000AU

Friggen government, people just toss them to rot and stink out the creek on the bank. Why waste such brilliant sporting fish. stupid aus

Cheers

No thats extremly ***. What if you were on a trip to Europe and god came and killed you because you arent "native"?

First off where in that comment does it mention my sexual orientation. Grow up son. Second the carp aren't on a "trip". They are here to destruct and stay. I am sure if I was destructive in europe they would send me back to the us. If I was killing other people (carp are killing other fish) they would KILL me.

It's cool. I just think that people should leave comments like that out of a public forum. It can tend to offend some people and it really has no point...

just to argue from the other side.....carp can actually be good, they are sometimes released to control invasive or over growing plants....

Never ever good.

Below photo is an example of no matter how hard we try to contain invasive fishes, they manage to escape and severely damage native populations. Grass carp were supposed to be only release if sterile and only for weed control. You can see below they manged to get out, reproduce and now compete with natives already in trouble due to ever changing water conditions. This photo is the first known population of grass carp in this waterway. A very sad find indeed.

I have to say that yes, they can be good, but the result isn't. Just like telost said, the bad outweighs the good. Carp can control unwanted vegetation, but the unwanted mass population of carp causes a new problem.

:(

This is the problem with releasing fish to non native areas.. Fisht aht are already endangered and have no other place in the world that they are native to become extinct.. Though the numbers are rising the numbers are still extremely low.

The June sucker was federally listed as an endangered species with critical habitat on April 30, 1986. The lower 4.9 miles of the Provo River was identified as critical habitat because this was the only known spawning location for the species. Factors contributing to its federal listing included localized distribution, failure to recruit individuals to the adult life stage, and threats to the continued survival of June sucker. The US Fish and Wildlife Service designated June sucker as a species with a high risk of extinction, a low recovery potential, and the presence of conflict. Nonnative fish, habitat alternations, and water development and operations were the primary threats to June sucker at the time it was listed.
