I own test kits but I never use them. All of my tanks are barely stocked and I change the water pretty often. If you take proper care of the tank and the filters there is no need to test the water because you shouldnt have issues.

This was in December. I haven't tested the water in this tank in over a year, the fish are happy and healthy. Have them up for sale, I'll be sad to see them go! But I'm going planted with the tank once they're gone...if I go heavily planted I'll probably have to do some water testing but we'll see.

I haven't tested the water in my snakeheads tank in over three months... but I know what to look for in his behavior etc...I also have a test kit on hand in case I really need it... the tank at my partners in the other hand, I have got him into the habit of testing before every water change (ie three times a week) because I know he won't notice if the behavior is off...

woaahh . your tank is awesome. the big ones really like to chase the small ones ehh? a big tank like yours should be added more fish. :) and i love tht dark environment of your tank, really makes the tank alive. :clap

hey guys, i too never bought a test kit, never used one bfore and probably dont know how to use one. lol ! i have only 3 tanks, 100g,65g,33g . my 100g is still empty probably for my midas later on.
btw, how do u guys cycle your tanks without a test kit?

In line with what others are saying, I rarely (if ever) test my water. Of course, my main tank has been running for six years, and I do weekly water changes. Another trick I use is filling new tanks (can you tell I have a problem with the ever-expanding collection) with water removed from my main tank when doing water changes. This helps my new set ups too. Also change my bettas using water from the main tank. I always know my tank is safe and healthy based on the fish, and only test if something appears to be wrong.
