how can we make asian arowanas legal?

Even though they are being successfully being bred on farms, these farms aren't helping the wild population stock. Their thinking is, "Why release an Arowana to help restock wild population? There's no money in that. Let's just sell them instead." As long as they are on the CITES list, they're not going to be available anytime soon.

The only trouble you'll see is you need to make it legal to do so which I even doubt as there are lots of negative things pointed out in releasing captive-bred fish to the wild.
You have no other option but to simply settle down and wait until CITES lift them off the list.

your probably going to have to go to asia and talk to a breeder and convince him on restocking the wild populations.. and then maybe he can have a licence to sell to america :] Gl

well i dont think it would be that much different than what they do with lakes and rivers here in iowa they stock them from fisheries once a year to bolster populations

dont they restock.. and then have people fish after them?... they can just have laws that ban or limit arows in asia and then start up on captive bred arows

the rest of the world does not work the same way as this country does. We can get govt funding to restock populations of native wildlife and it will be regulated, this is not necessarily the case for other countries

this i understand to be true. but if legal fish farms can become quite profitable by being able to import to MFK'ers like us to buy them. then maybe then we can increase the wild population also by raising awarness and conservation.
