it's not just cops that eat donuts. but if you drive by a donut place, you see other people and other cars all the time along with the cruiser and men in uniform. but you don't know what the other people do, but you recognize the cops right away. therefore you always think they are always there when really you just don't know their professions.
and in the 70's and 80's, there wasn't these 24 hour starbucks drive thrus. so these 7-11's or whatever would serve coffee and donuts late for the people who worked late or early. plus having a cop around for the stuff makes them feel safer
