they will slowly and calmly fall a sleep and then they will stop breathing then they will die, not painful just falling asleep and never waking up...

Oh good. Because if they start freaking out so will I!
Once I see no gill movement I'll know they're dead? Because I really don't think I could go through with decapitating them.

ya once you see that the gill movement has stop just wait 5-10 mins to be safe and you can dispose of the bodies how ever you seem fit... like mailing them to your son?:FIREdevil

Clove oil is my method of choice. Isolate the fish into a small container (bucket for instance) and drop clove oil in one drop at a time, until the fish stops moving. Continue to drop until you cease to see gill movement, add a couple more drops, and let him sit for a few minutes. You can now call him passed on.
I like this method the most, except when the fish stops moving. Begin to pour small amounts of vodka in, that way you absolutely know they have passed.

They are just fish, everything has been tried and the end of the rope has come that is all...

No. Having "too big of a tank" is not justification for killing anything. Get a smaller tank and put them in it if you have to, there are cheap ones on craigslist, and you can keep them in there until you can find homes for them. Post up your 220 and offer a deal w/ a trade.

they are her sons fish and tanks, she doesnt want to take care of them anymore and he doesnt want them so she wants to get rid of them, she has tried for a while to get a proper home for them and she is tired of taking care of her tanks and her sons tank which is why she is trying to get rid of her sons fish...

I personally dont see a problem with that...
