You need more bacteria in the tank if you are getting nitrite and ammonia readings.
use a baby net for now in the other tank, but if you want a fry tank, get it cycled first (if you plan on putting a lot of babies in it)
So get some bacteria from either your other tank or a pet store (pet store in my area will help out customers by giving them some mulm off their filters into a bag, free of charge)
You can use small amounts of pure ammonia to get it cycled (test it daily and make sure there are no fish in it when you are dosing with pure ammonia). That is how I set up a new tank. Never tried it on small scale, but I did do this with a 10 gallon.
