How do you acclimate your fish ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Float them, then move to a bucket and add water from the tank they are going into and then net them in

I look at it like this, You know your water quality at home is way better than at the fish store so Im not really too worried about them getting dumped into much better water. Just float em to acclimate temp. But also, I deal with african cichlids which are very hardy. Other fish may need much more care.

It's a really bad idea to add store water to your tank...
This is a large portion of the reason that I do it my way. No tank water :) from the store

before i had saltwater fish i float and net the fish.
after having salt i used a dripline on any freshie that is very sensitive or if the water parameters happened to be extrememly different than mine.

Float, wait, put some tank water in bag, repeat, repeat, dump. :)

Ditto. Haven't lost a fish in my 15+ years in the hobby.

every new fish goes into the qtank... i just match the bag/bucket temp with treated tap water and call it a day...

or they end up in a bucket while i set up the qtank... and then i forget about them for a few hours and go "o crap that fish looks cold... uhhhh" and then if they are still kicking they get tampered water added to the bucket till its about right then they get dumped in.....

For FW, I float, dump into a bucket, add 50% tank water to bucket, and net into tank.

For SW, a re-education camp and loyalty oath are required.
