I used clear tape until today... REad on a local fish forum that they many people used oil to adhere it, and canola oil at that. So I did. and I hate it. I cant get all the bubbles out, I went and bought a squigee, tried a credit card, out of ideas. My 180 is too close to the wall to reach all spots with a hand to wash off the oil, but can reach with squigee. What do you use to adhere your backgrounds? I have a feeling I will be moving the tank foreward 3 more inches.. *sigh* Just thinking about how much work that is ugh... I have a feeling this canola oil was a baaaad idea.

I don't use those premade picture backgrounds, but when I did I used tape. Tape one side, and pull it taut, then slowly go taping the sides as you unroll more and more background. Always keep as much tension as possible. Never got any bubbles or visible deformities. Now i would just go for a painted background

my background is built in Suckers
but seriusly some blue construction tape works fine or electrical tape

"just an idea"
attach a rag to a stick and clean the glass from the top.
use a few new dry rags.
remove background and wipe it down.
i used duct tape on the sides and top of mine.
on the bottom i "pinned" a long 1x2 to push the bottom against the tank.
hard to explain that part.lol
