i bought a back ground for my 285 and was told to clean the glass well and use water on both the tank and background and then stick the two together i didnt think it would work thought the guy was messing with my head guess what? worked out great used a squigee for the few bubbels i did have

One part better....... add a few drops of dish soap to the water when applying. It will give additional dry time and the ability to slide around more. Adhesion is much better as well.
Same concept as applying window tint/film.

What was the question?

I can't quit looking at the avatar. ;)

I use tint and I'm not going to lie...it has bubbles and it was kind of a pain, but I do like it. It's better than dealing with a background that keeps falling off because the tape keeps wearing out. I do use tape on another tank with a foam board background, but I used clear box tape.

humm... I really dont want to have to take off the background., but canola-oil-adhesive, really isnt cutting it. It looks terrible, and to make it worse, my tank is only 3 inches from the wall :( It's going to be a "move fish friends out.beer.empty tank.beer.get tank moved. take off background.beer.put background back on.beer. do all steps backwards.beers. well.. it doesnt sound too bad I guess

How do you get the paint off if you change your mind? What type of paint do you use?

I use a latex interior house paint when doing mine, that way if you dislike the color or change your mind you can just peal it off without problem. I always use flat paint, really don't know what glossy would look like.

Lol, all the beers in between the steps dosen't sound like a bad idea, but i know how you feel. I want to paint my 150 gallon so bad, but it is about 5 inches from the wall, so it makes it near impossible to do. I don't know how big your tank is, but I moved my 75 gallon myself with the fish in it. I did it during a cleaning, i was able to slide one end out from the wall, paint it, slide it back then do the same to the other side. If this is a possibility (with a friends help perhaps) it may save you a lot of trouble. Good luck with it either way.
