Bleach in a fish tank??:screwy::grinno:

Vinegar and water with a scraper should get it off..

As weird as it sounds (and to those in the know, it defies logic), bleach has a weird ability to remove salt creap. Normally you would look for something acidic like vinegar or HCl (btw, CLR is excellent as previously mentioned). Bleach (sodium hydroxide) has a very high pH, so you wouldn't naturally reach for it to remove salt creep.

It should be noted however, that bleach was not totally effective and showed best results only after the parts were soaked in an acid bath.

I would try bleach. I'm not sure if it's bad for acrylic, it just might make the acrylic cloudy looking but you're using it as a sump so it won't matter how clear the blue acrylic is as long as it doesn't have algae or salt on it. Some have said to use something to scrap it off but if you use a scraper, you will definitely make notable scratches on the acrylic. Also, whenever I use bleach for anything for my tanks, I always first rinse it off completely and then if it's a tank or a sump, I will fill it with water and put double the amount of water conditioner in it and leave over night. The water conditioner will get rid of the bleach (Chlorine). Never had a problem. The Doctor.

Thanks to all of you. I Think I am going to try the bleach method first b/c I don' have to go buy anything lol. The tank will not have water in it for some time. So I am not worried about any ill affects. I have thought about scrapping it off. If it scratches then that's ok b/c it will be painted anyway.

Ill try the bleach tonight and see if that works then ill let you guys know. hopefully if it works tonight ill get some more pics up. If it doesn't ill tell ya what i'm trying next.

I really would like to thank you guys again for all the different ways to clean this off.

I don't think bleach is going to be a cure all. The heavier calcium deposits will probably have to be removed using CLR or muriatic acid. Either way, let us know how it goes.

i agree... u can try to scrape it off....

I'm going to have to say i'm not sure lol I couldn't find the bleach I thought I had but I did however end up finding some CLR lol. And it does work rather well. As soon as it touched the salt it started bubbling and came off pretty easy. Some of the algea however wanted to stay on. I have to get back into the tank to clean it all the way but I hope to do that when I get home tonight. But so far CLR works really well.

If all else fails call the A-Team and they`ll show you how to make a bazooka that shift it with no problems...:woot:
