how do you cycle your tank???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just move my old basketball sized sponge filter onto the new tank (the filter is always in a tank of mine and loaded with live BB) and add the new tanks filtration. Then I put my royal plec in there for a bit lol

what?!? using est. media is the best way to go. using fish to cycle can kill the fish in the process, using pure ammonia can be tricky, and if you dont have est media im sure your lfs will give you some

this is why said use black skirt tetras,
hardy lil buggers,
i always use them and a plec,
and plants cuz plants r loaded with bb...
anything u can out of an estaqblished tank will help ur cycle

thanks guys, my tank is now cycled!

feel free to keep posting tips for me and other people :)

thank a lot!!!

You went from asking how, to fully cycled in 48 hours ?
What method did you wind up using ?

5 gallons of dirty water from an established tank via a gravel vac will cycle any size tank.
This myth has been proven factually incorrect numerous times.

The only "tricky" part is understanding the process before one starts and having the ability to follow instructions. Otherwise the rest of your advice was sound.

Fishless cycling with ammonia is about as tricky as falling off a log.:)

lol, i was cycling already for about 2 weeks, but i just wanted to know faster ways because i was curious, my tank was prob cycled in a week but i figured id give it another week just because im not in a hurry.

all i did was set up my tank and dechlorinated it, and put some other stuff in it like water clear and anti ich stuff, then i wait about two days and then i take the carbon cartridges out from my smaller 55 gallon and squeeze them out into the tank i am cycling. then i waited untill now to test the water with the tetra test strip and everything looks good

any tips or am i doing anything wrong?
because i was goin to put one of my oscars in today

I use old filter sponges media etc. and let it chill in the tank. I'll also throw in some feeder comets.
