if that does start the cycle.... then that's disgusting..:hypnotize

it would mean ur 55 gallon is completely polluted.. i.e. filled with ammonia...

if u want to cycle ur tank just go out and spend the $2 for a bottle of ammonia. most drug stores and hardware stores should carry it. make sure it doesn't have any fragrances or additives. it will state this on the bottle.

all tanks with fish have poop at the bottom, my 55 is crystal clear and cycled, i have very healthy fish in it. the water with the waste was still pretty clear but had some poop in it, let me know what you think

I usally just put one of my old filters in and some old gravel with the new an throw some of the water from my other tank in it. Let it run for a bit ( few days) then add some hardy fish. I also used feeder fish when upgrading my piranha tank, Then when my tank was cycled put my P's in an let them go to town. Worked everytime for me. Never had one dead fish.

Squeeze sponges/media from established filters from existing tank to new tank and water. Make new water murky as possible then let filter clear up all the muck then add fish. Works for me everytime with no problems. It may not be the proper way but it's the quickest way to cycle a new tank.
