Rare specimens go to the taxidermist. Although, he's still not sure what to do with the titanic panaque. The rest become fertilizer in the veggie garden.

Sounds expensive, is it?

It can be expensive. However, I made a deal with my taxidermist. If I let him keep the mounts to enter into contests, the price reduces depending on award placements. If he gets multiple awards, the mount is free. He also gives me a break on the specimens I let him use in his advertising.

i hate to ask, and if you dont want to answer i understand, but about how much does it cost on average? without discounts.

we got an owl mounted once (yes we got an educational permit), and if it costs anywhere near that much, im afraid i couldnt do that :nilly:

Mounts run about $200-$250 a foot. Additional options would be plant work, encasement, etc. This typr of mount utilizes the actual skin, scales, and fins of the original animal.

My 3ft panaque ran me $200 after the discounts. Basically, I just paid for the driftwood and glass case.

I bury my large fish in the flowerbed. Only the best flowers are planted there. Special fish, special flowers.

i have a molly in my freezer... he was such a cool fish and he was small enough to fit in there... but if you really want to make your fish happy eat him

Keep them in the tank and pretend they're alive.

But seriously, I freeze them until garbage day and then throw them in the bin.
:ROFL:LOL...I've put them out in the yard at night for the raccoons, that sure kept the coons away from my cat's food.

Freeze then toss in the trash. I'd like to compost them but my dogs would probably dig up and eat the bodies. When fish die in the pond at work tho I bury them in the flower beds or toss in the woods for raccoons and possums to yummy down on.
