How do you move large tanks?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
When I got my 120W from my friend Him an his dad (both weightlifters) carried it into my Basement for me, Empty of course. Him an his dad got his 240gal into his house to.

it took 4 people to move my 200gal with 1" thick glass. then a month later i had to move an organ and use a piano mover (a dolly that straps on to each side of piano and lifts up about 4") that is what i will use next time for sure.

id say just be a man and have some buddys over and move it all by hand or if your moving get a truck!!!! lol

When I got my 240gal. I bought 4 suction cups that glass installers use to move large pieces of glass. Works great! Makes moving heavy tanks much less a chore.

Wow... A 180 gallon? I lugged a 220 on to a stand once on my own. It was pretty rough too, lol... Of course, it was only an acrylic tank. I am currently trying to figure out how in the hello to move a mammoth 750 gallon tank across country and then try to figure out what to do with it once (if) it arrives. The 180 will be a piece of cake.

if you buy beer, they will come... :naughty:

(your friends that is..)

just have your friends come and help you out. my thing is an average guy should be able to move 60g worth of glass so divide that by the size of tank and then you will get the number of people. then you figure average person can probably put in 3 cans of beer (you want to use the minimun with this since you dont want drunk people lifting up heavy glass) then multiply by the number of person and this is how much beer you need to buy. worked great for me in the past.

I brought my 125 home and moved it from the van to the basement by myself.
Used a two wheel dolly to get to the house, and 12' 2x6's on the steps to slide it down.
Worked out pretty well.
Took the help of a friend though to move it from the wall where it was setup to where it is now.
