I've always pronounced it playco, cuz when I worked at a lfs and first heard the shortened version thats how everybody there said it.

plea-co or plecko is whats accepted really. Think it might differ in countrys too... I havent heard anyone here call it a plecko, its all plea-co.
plecostomus is pronounced pleh COSS toe mus with emphasis on the COSS. but, its definitely not playco lol
