I say play-co too. But I'm pretty sure it is plecko.

I wouldn't call it a "nickname." It's just a shortened version of the word plecostomus. Calling a Plecostomus a "Playco" is like calling someone named Nicholas "nayk."

Thankfully, the english language has successfully bastardized the proper pronunciation of almost everything so it really doesn't matter how you pronounce Pleco!

Since the name is based on Plecostomus, using the latin pronunciation (which is the basis for most scientific names; the rest being greek or modified versions of either) the correct pronunciation would be........wait for it........

I've always just used 'plec'. For some reason I feel like a little kid when I try to say it 'pleco' with that 'a' at the end.
