How do you rinse your sand?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Get out the hose and put it in the sand and turn it on fast enough to kick up the sand but not so much that it goes over the side...you want a container that is tall not wide...do it in the tub and be careful not to spill the sand...
that, or get a good education and move to the sunny/expensive side of the country.;)

Any fish can kick up sand and it can get into the intakes...If you are using a canister or powerheads on or in your tank, cover the intakes with fine foam, it helps... If you are running a wet/dry, don't worry your pre-filter should keep the sand in check and out of the motor of the pump....

All of my filters are HOB AC's, aqua-techs, or inside hanging canister whisper things
:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL: never heard them called that before!!:D

All of those filters are susceptible to sand damage.
Failure is inevitable if you don't protect them against sand. And it only takes a few grains to chew the inside of the motor housings up...use foam to make some covers for the intake screens

Just rinse it in a 5 gallon bucket in the tub carefully with warm water, it works better than cold...

creepy smile I know... here is what I found. I will try and make it work but if not then I will go look for the stuff you mentioned!
