Not much difference in their appearance if you ask me. So why buy a bichir for a WC price when you can't even tell if it is CB or WC? Perharps the LFS owner is trying to get sales by passing off CB as WC.
When choosing bichirs, I picked the one I like based on several factors. Activeness, Colour, Size... etc. Don't care if its CB or WC, as long as it catches my eyes, I'm fine.
And to add, going back to the first post, IMO WC Bichirs tend to have less in the way of patterns.
With Delhezi, CB are usually the ones to have lots of patterning.
I generally prefer having CB fish.
I support captive breeding programs because they take stress off wild populations. Supplementing the captive breeding gene pool with some WC every now and then should keep major genetic problems at bay. I know the polys are not threatened, but it is a matter of principle. I am not 100% completely sure if my endli is CB or not, but he came in as one of a batch of about ten 3" babies, which suggests that he is. Does anyone know other means with which to tell if he is CB or not?
I was wondering if there is usually a size difference between WC and CB polys. I seem to be hearing it everywhere.
WC are usually sold at sizes that are Adult of sub-adult for their respective species, CB are usually sold at 5 inch under. I say Usually, but not always.
Rare species, are rare in the hobby usually because they are not yet commercially breeding yet, although they are some successfully breeders that sell them, but not in mass quantities.
PBB, Congicus, and Ansorgii to name a few are usually WC, very few breeders outside of Japan have been able to breed them, and those that breed them usually are top breeders who have big names and they will flaunt their name with CB products such as Kamihata Bred P.Bichir Bichir.
