101% light subtrate is better for marbles.

:iagree::iagree::iagree:

I will never go back to a dark subtrate :WHOA: NEVER

My marbles looked great on a light substrate. I have a small pup now on brown substrate and he really darkened up. Doesn't look as good.

Barebottom black pond liner definetly makes them look TERRIBLE. Some don't even look like the same rays........

Do you have lights on your pond? You might want to try brighter ones to lighten the rays up some.

I just have shop lights over it.

The juvies will be coming back upstairs once I finish the bio towers for the growout tank..... Not really digging them being in the pond. The pond is fine for big established rays but for lil guys that are new to me it's just much easier to be sure they are eating right and are healthy if they are in a tank....... One with white substrate.......LOL

Do they make a white or lighter color pond liner. I know the liners are made basically
out of the same materials as rubber roofing membrane.
They just don't have the ability to leach chemicals into the ponds. I know they make a white
TPO for Roofs so I would think they had pond liners in white.

I've never seen white liners..... I thought they were made more like/by inner tube manufacturers.....

No matter, tanks are better for rays anyways..... Until they need something wider than 4 foot anyways......

Does the lighting help change the pattern also. I did not want to go too bright. I thought they preferred lower lighting. What kind should I get?

Not really going to change the pattern but it does have a HUGE impact and the base color.

No lights at all and they will get really pale. IF I leave the lids off my pond for a few days straight with the lights on the rays will look much better than they normally do with only 7-10 hours of light.

Light and substrate both are huge factors. Best to just experiment and see what your rays prefer the best.

Interesting...I've had light and dark and my marbles definitely look better on the DARKER substrate...In fact all of my rays look better with the black bottom as opposed to lighter substrate.
