How does my stock sound ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The sevs are already pretty big. And the one geo is pretty decent sized. By the time the sen and clown knife are ready to go in there everyone should be large enough. I probably won't do clown loaches unless I can buy them large... Thanks for the input though.

How do discus mix with Sevs? N how many Discus could I do in a 72 bowfront?

I'd avoid discus with severums unless you have experience with discus. They do not easily compete for food with more active SAs.

sounds pretty good maybe a bit crowded with all the cichlids plus the clown and gar will outgrow the tank eventually though. whats the filtration your using?

Right now I have 3 emperor 400 HOBs and I have 1 CFS700 with UV. I was just curious about the discus because I am getting a few for free from a friend. So I'll just shoot for a pair in my 72. Final stocking is going to be 6 Severums, Florida Gar, Clown knife, and probably just the bichir. Who knows down the road I might ditch the Clown Knife and find other stuff to go with my sevs.

Again, if you don't understand discus, I wouldn't try them.

You're going to need at least four, but preferably six to eight, discus in order to keep them from stressing and killing each other. If you throw two or three discus in a tank there will be issues. Discus establish a hierarchical pecking order that doesn't work with a couple fish. I'd strongly suggest doing your research before accepting a fish like that.

Ok I can put that many small ones in a 72 but, I can't keep 8 full grown discus in a 72 though, right? I'm asking for advice I'm doing my research now. I'm not going to just get
them cold turkey.

I would actually worry about the Gar. Gar's aren't always evil but Gars like to nip things and give fish a bite now and then to see how it turns out. The gar will out grow your CK and possible snack on him. But a big ole CK should be fine. I would just worry about the gar being the biggest fish as it will try to eat things. Maybe if you get a baby gar you would be better suited. And Sengal Birchir are active but nothing special to look at. A stock like that might be worth a higher end Polypetrus.

That was the plan but, haven't found any in my area recently. My gar never bothers anyone though I had never seen him open his mouth til 2 nights ago when he finally accepted pellets.
