how far from wall do you have your tanks setup?

my tanks 1.5" from the wall, just far enough to get away from the tack strips

I think how far you place the tank from the wall depends on a couple of factors.

If you have wall to wall carpet, you need to stay away from the carpet tack strip approximately an inch.

If you have canister filters, allow at least twice the diameter of the tubing and any quick disconnects that would be back there.

If you want to add a Hang On Back filter or may in the future, that dimension needs to be taken into consideration.

I have been leaving about 4 1/4 inches between the back of the stand & the wall. This allows clearance for an AC110 to be easily removed for servicing.

I can also still get the vacuum cleaner nozzle behind the stand to clean and my cats can get through without getting stuck.

Totally agree, especially about the tack strip... I always assume 2" for it.

The main advantage of a solid back is to reduce heat lose from sump and filters. However you run the risk of rot due to moisture if you have sump.

I have an enclosed stand, and to prevent mildew is I painted it white with Semi-gloss paint so it can be cleaned and it seems okay. If needed you can add a small fan for circulation

take off the back itll save u tons of time and frusteration

The Back is obviously on there for a reason... I wouldn't take it off because it may weaken the stand... if you do remove it you will need to re-enforce the stand to accomidate for the back removal.

One of my tanks is flush with the wall as it is drilled on the bottom. The 125 is about 1.5" from the wall.

mine is about 12" away, my sump, and pump i arrange it in an unorthodox method, so i can utilize the more space for under my stand
