Added drift wood, thinking the lake would have rinsed it good enough. 20161016_203730.jpg
About 5 hours later, both pictures are looking thru 48" of water.
PH is being buffered alot, have added 16oz of carbon. To soak up tanins, added 15 pounds of lead to sink drift wood. 33" ×12" x15".
Advise highly appreciated.

i over filter every tank and setup i have so if its not already clear or in a
situation like you it only takes a couple hours give or take max.

You may want to switch out the lead weight for something else. Under the right conditions lead can leach into the water and harm the fish.
What's a good weight to use. Lead, gold, tungsten are all heavy by volume displaced. Lead being the cheapest. Most of my tungsten is tied up in expensive cutting tools, I own no gold.
316 stainless but I only have about 5 pounds laying around.
It should water log in a couple of weeks, and with lots of water changes to remove tannins. Hopefully the lead won't do too much harm.

I presoak wood in other stuff. I also tied my wood down to stone tiles for a little till it sunk. The rest is mopani that sinks like stones

I believe zinc is safe.

I don't worry about wood sinking. I put it in the tank, if it wants to float, it floats. When it sinks, it sinks. It looks better than an empty box whether it sinks or floats.

For tannins......tannin is the only thing I've seen that Purigen shows just dramatic results. I've gone from moderately tea stained water to crystal overnight with Purigen.

I presoak wood for a week, and then just do waterchanges till its gone

To sink driftwood, I drill holes in it and pieces of slate. I use fishing line to tie the driftwood to the slate. Perfectly safe for the fish.
