I agree that channel cats do much better in colder water, and I have never seen them in a pond with Koi. They live shorter life spans with less activity in warmer waters. They do much better in the higher DO levels found in cooler water.
As for the water change debate... 50% weekly is in the best interest of nearly every tank out there. The only way to successfully keep your nitrates and other DOC's down is to change the water. Elevated DOC cause so many problems they can't be listed, ohh and not one manufacturer makes a hobby level kit to test for them. The only way to be sure they are low, is the change the water. Elevated nitrates are a good indicator that your DOC's are also high, so measuring them is the next best thing.
What are your nitrates? How much do they rise each week? If they are climbing by more than 10-20ppm in the week between water changes, you need to change even more water.

Channel Catfish and "LMB"'s,(laregemouth bass?)are cold water fish and have no business being maintaned at a constant 82 degrees.
all the fish kept in the tank seem to be vigorus and none just sit at the bottom not moving.
the channel cats are always cruising the bottom diving in and out of their caves.
i just did about a 75-80% WC and have noticed a difference in the behavior of all the fish.
the LMB seems to be doing fine all around as well. he is probably being traded shortly anyway.
the only reason why i keep the temp at 82 is to prevent disease such as ich, as the P.Bass are prone to it in their adolecent stages.
when you say "Cold" are you refering to room temp or 60?

I do not see channels with koi- huge channels would make a nice tasty snack outta of kois if given the chance to. No idea how you deducted that answer. I'm talking about the fact that channels are from colder waters parts- give them a choice of between a colder deeper part of a lake to a shallower warmer part of a lake, I would say they'll be in the cooler part of the lake lounging about.

Yeah channel cats and pbass as tankmates was a bad idea. Peacock bass juveniles need to be kept at a plus of 85 or they will become succeptible to diseases and other health issues and channels need cooler waters.

as for the cats they are fed a diet of Hikari Masivore pellets, TertraMin Tropical Tablets for bottom feeders, and sometimes krill.
All my fish are healthy and active, the cats are especially at night.

Cold would be like 75 
And channels don't really grow all that fast. Your pbass will be around 10" in 12 months, while the channels will be around 5-6", pbass like to eat things that fit in their mouths (This is coming from experience.)

anyways the LFS had an albino channel cat that was 12" long and he said it was from a customer who had it for a year and a half. any truth to this?
