how fast to armatus grow from 2"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
not bad

I had mine in a 40 gallon breeder till he hit 7 inches and was totally fine, but probably not recommended, with a 900 gph water circulator with a canister filter and HOB filter, so lots of water movement ... I'd stay away from any cichlid type fish that will hassel him, and I'd stay away from very small fish, as Armatus can eat very large meals, and even an unsuccessful attempt at eating with those teeth will most likely be lethal

On a side note, sashimi glad you pulled the trigger on a couple Army's, good luck with them

Yeah, I jumped on some when I saw them. Picked up 3 two inchers. The were eating rosys the same size as themselves. Amazing how much they can swallow. They would float around with tails sticking out of their mouths waiting for the head to digest. Sorry for the hijack. :naughty:

so how many months would he be great in a 48"x18" ... till he hit 10" or so ?

Mine were moved out of this footprint at 6-7", soon as they were on frozen food. Guessing 6 months.

I wouldn't think a 10" Armatus is going to be "great" in a 75/90, but maybe you get lucky and it's just hippy burnt out mellow? Every fish is different but these things are typically pretty strong fast fish.

Djaalix, you're lucky to have such soft water, it seems to me like this may be a trend with Armatus and the success some have and failures others have.

i really want one ... but i will be in bootcamp next year ... thats what im having a problem with
thinking about picking up the two 8"+pink tail chalceus they have at the lfs ... solo cichlid are not doing it for me

8" Chelceus are huge.... I had one for years that might have been 7".

Would be a much better choice in my opinion. Very underated, very managable fish.

Can't blame you on the Cichlids. That's all anyone around here has cause they seem to spawn like hell fire in our liquid rock tap water. I'd rather keep turtles.

yeah the lfs has two HUGE ones ... are they like aces ? or are they just mean looking tetras that eat flakes lol
