I run a 2128 on my 90 w/penguin 150 ph with a sponge for more water flow. Eheim is by far the best ive owned been running for about 9 months, keeps the water way clear.

i have two 2028's on my 100. i absolutely love em, relaly good for bio filtration, and use quilt batting for mech. media(much cheaper) i have ceramic rings on the bottom with the blue spnge, the second with all sub. pro and the top tray with half sub pro and quilt batting. i also dont use the spray bars, my aro likes it with out it.

and have bought at least 10 more for friends and family. Greatest canister on the market ever in my opinion. The head gasket seal can start to leak after about 2-3 years.

Last week I turned it off to feed my fish and forgot to turn it back on. It had been off for a few hours so I opened it up to dump out the dead bacteria and rinse it. I put it all back together, hooked it up, turned it on, and walked away. I came back about 20 minutes later to find 5 gallons of water in my carpet.
I have now replaced the O-ring in the priming head and cleaned the sealing gasket that goes between the canister body and the head, but the filter is still pouring water. Like, a gallon every five minutes. I have taken this thing apart multiple times for cleanings and media rinses so I know it's put back together correctly. I have quadruple-checked everything, read their manual, watched YouTube setup videos, read forums, etc. hoping that I missed something stupid, but I cannot find anything.
I'm frustrated and stumped now. The main thing I love about the Eheim is that the 5/8" hose allows me to use an inline Hydor heater. If I replace the filter with an FX5 that won't be possible (that I'm aware of anyway) without dedicating a pump just to the heater. I'm leery about ordering another Eheim, though.
Maybe I broke something when I took it apart. *shrug* Otherwise, it was a good filter in the year leading up to the leak.
