no body is doubting the depth of your pockets homie ;)

I'm new to cichla but from what I've heard, up until this year azuls and kelberi were very hard to come by. If you consider the number of azuls available to us over the last few years I think they still rannk pretty high in rarity. Just because you see a lot of them for sale now doesn't mean there will be any new batches for sale any time soon. :nilly:

The value of anything is different with each person (there's a better saying for this but I can't think of it right now :)). I believe an azul at 6" was commanding a much higher price tag a few years ago than it is today. Who knows what will happen and if we'll see any more any time soon.

Just my 2 cents.

I can see where you're comin from...I've always pictured these cichla collectors to work the same way snookn does, by collecting the eggs and not the actual fry. "Sight" fishing nest where they can positively ID an adult and collecting the eggs in the nest to hatch in hatchery. with this technique I can see hundreds of fry

i have my theories that none of these azuls, kelberis and orinos that have been coming in are wild caught. i think theyre all being captive bred in another country. i just find it hard to believe that all these THOUSANDS of hard to find fish were all hand caught and netted in the wild

Sometimes I wonder about the same issue, too. When they are imported in hundreds at size of 1-2", how could you 100% ID them?
In S.A. everyone calls Cichla "tucunare" or "pavon"..... I am 99% sure they don't know much about species types. Like you mentioned, few scenarios can happen:
1. Collect eggs directly from nest with parents witnessed and ID.
2. Breeding facilities, ie: a lake, pond, or someone's garage in S.A.
3. Wild caught by net at 1-2" with egg sac still present :grinno:..... It's hard to believe they can survive in the process. Maybe 3-4", but not 1-2".

Thanks for posting a lik to my F/S thread!:headbang2

To all the people that said they will wait for another batch of fry to come along. Good luck. I had to wait 3 years to get a chance to buy enough to have a shoal of Azul.
Not saying it couldn't happen though. :D

i got a 14'' azul for free lol i waited a year to find one locally tho
this one is from the brian scott batch in 04 or 05
