Hello; I am not an anti-vaxer. I do however see the potential for some unexpected reactions as these vaccines are indeed made by what I understand to be an entirely new method previously untried on masses of people. Good thing is there have been some trials so some evidence from those. The trials were by necessity perhaps shorter than normal, but hopefully have been enough so the vaccines will not have too many surprises.
To me the rush to have a vaccine depends on age and current medical issues. Were I young and healthy I would more likely wait a while figuring the odds for a more serious illness from the virus is small and the reactions from the vaccine are not yet fully known. At 73, as I am, the odds likely are tanking a vaccine will be a better outcome than having the disease.
For older folks like me ( well I guess this will work for any age group) the better plan may be to have an antibody test first to see if I have already had the virus. A positive antibody test means I have my immune system ready to deal with the virus if I happen to run across it again and getting a vaccine probably will not help that much. If I have a negative antibody test then I am very open to catching the virus and could become very ill so getting a vaccine seems the good plan. Not sure when or if I will have a chance to get a vaccine here in flyover country. I think there is some being given out in Knoxville TN about 50 to 60 miles away.
It is a shame in so many ways that so many aspects of this pandemic have been and continue to be colored by agendas. It is so hard to wade thru all the conflicting stories being pushed onto us. In addition too many times the ones we ought to be able to count on do seem to have taken a side which has little to do with the "science". For me it is somewhat like it was when I joined the fish forum here. Had I not been keeping fish already for decades the conflicting opinions I found here ten years ago would have confused me. I can see how a newby to the hobby might struggle.
I have come to rely on my own dated background as a biology teacher when it comes to the new virus as I did with my years of experience as a fish keeper when I found this forum. Of course this forum is changed as well. Hard to have an honest civil discussion anymore.
