Hello; A sad thing happened in Knox County TN. It is reported somehow around 990+ doses of vaccine were discarded. The excuse given is pretty lame. Something about how no call was made telling them the vaccine had been shipped. I am sure there are more details but that is all I have heard so far. I am not in the loop about how a container of vaccine is labeled, but do figure some sort of label is on the container. On top of that I think the stuff has to be packed in dry ice so another level of stupid to ignore an insulated package.
Being a pessimist and not so trusting, I might begin to think something underhanded could be possible. I wonder what 990 doses of vaccine might be good for outside a clinic?

Hello; Had the second dose of the Moderna vaccine yesterday morning. Had the first four weeks ago. The first was no big deal, some arm soreness at the injection site was about the extent of it.
The second dose is a whole different thing. Spent some miserable hours, 10 to 12 hours, last night. Body aches, injection site much more sore, fever and chills just like having a flu. Headache today. I feel some better this morning and if there are no more fever , chills and such then at least the misery does not last as long as a regular flu. Also not quite as intense as a real bad flu, but plenty bad enough.

If I had previously been infected with the covid19 virus I likely would have skipped the vaccine, but I have not had the virus. I went and had an antibody test before the first shot which was negative.

I had been mulling over the choice to skip the second injection. My thinking was the first injection was supposed to offer some protection. I had figured that partial protection might help in that I would likely not be so ill if I did catch the virus. Seems such might be worth considering.

Anyway the reaction to the second shot is rough and no fun at all. In fact if you are having doubts the side effects are bad enough to make a difference.

No firm schedule for the vaccine rollout here yet, but it's looking like general population might start getting it in June. Vulnerable people in April.

Well behind most countries, but then we don't have any Covid here.

Sorry you had a rough time with it. Had my second Moderna shot on 3/5 and kept expecting to feel bad (we heard that some people get pretty sick after the 2nd shot). Arm wasn't as sore as the first shot, but there was a little knot at the injection site for a few days....mind you, I'm not complaining that I didn't feel sick...

A lad at work who's only a couple of years older than me has had his letter regarding his dose, so I should be receiving my letter soon. Cases and deaths well down now in the uk. School kids went back last Monday, college aged kids go back tomorrow. Other areas are being relaxed too. Summer just round the corner, I just hope to god that we don't start seeing yet another "wave", though the jabs should help there.

Will things ever get back to what they were though pre covid, or will a"new" careful approach be adopted regarding things that we just took for granted pre outbreak?

I hope I don't have to get a shot. I am deathly scared of needles for 2 reasons:

When I got the flu shot, the needle got stuck in my arm, and when she pulled the top out, the needle was still in. Mind you, I was 6 at the time. I flipped out, and I calmed down when the nurse pulled it out.

Another time is when I was in Yellowstone. I was riding my bike barefoot, crashed off a walking path bridge, and got my foot cut on the gears. I got taken to the hospital in Yellowstone National Park, and I needed to get liquid stitches. They stuck 4 needles into the cut, which was a few inches long and bleeding like hell. If the mods allow, I can show you. It is a bit bloody though. The "numbing" Agent didn't numb at all. I was practically screaming bloody murder as the last shot went in. I remember the pain; When the shot went in my leg went stiff and I was crying my guts out screaming "YOU ABSOLUTE &#$%@. &^%$ YOU". The numbing agent didn't help at all. Needless to say, when they put the liquid crap on my foot, I kicked the nurse lady in the face .

Hello; I have mentioned this before. I taught biology. So I am not an expert, more having a general knowledge. My thinking today is the strong reaction I had indicates the first dose of the Moderna vaccine did in fact set up the mechanism for a good immune response. So when I got the second shot yesterday things in my body were ready to swing into action and did so. Might be I was well enough protected with the first dose and could have skipped the second.
If I had know ahead of time how the second shot would hit me, I would have skipped it.

Interesting to see how different people have different reactions to the shots. A reaction means it's definitely working at least, and your immune system is having a strong response.

It'll be some time before I get mine but I'm looking forward to it. University has started again today but luckily my class is small.

Hello; 48 hours since the second shot. Feeling much better. Some more mild discomforts last night but much less intense. Perhaps some minor fever. I expect to have arm soreness for a while.

I have been active in a different site for a few months. These vaccines are not without controversy. I took a vaccine because of my age and the fact this virus hits older folks so hard. After the reaction from the second dose I have some new thinking. First is that one dose may be enough which I have already mentioned.

The next is that having every one take a vaccine might not be a good species decision. The vaccine may prove to have issues over time. May be best to not have everyone in the same boat. Those who were infected with the virus and recovered do not need to take the vaccine as they will have natural immunity. I would have every one take an antibody test before the vaccine. So many had asymptomatic infections. I took one before deciding to get the vaccine.
