how high are too high of nitrates ??

so if i take out my top basket and add purigen nitrate remover, adding 2ltrs which should fit... how often would i have to replace it in my fx5 with my 130-150g tank ?

1 litre should be plenty and its regenerable. When the purigen turns dark brown or black(around 4-6 months) you soak it in 1:1 bleach to water then water with dechlorinator and its good as new, detailed instructions are on the bottle and seachem website.

thats good to know then i can re use it :) i kind alike the idea of a HOBF with some live plants in it to grow outside of the tank and then just trim em as needed.. like the lucky bamboo i saw but how much would they really pull outta the water right... and how much would be needed, and i noticed after reading a caresheet for lucky bamboo that it has mildly toxic leaves... for keep away form pets and childern it says

I have 2 huge golden pothos vines in my 90, I bought 2 12"x12" hydroponics baskets, filled em with pea gravel, put the roots in and submerged 2/3 of the basket in the water, it been about a week but usually my n03 spikes to 50ppm by Friday, well its Sunday and I'm 20-30ppm and I just planted the second one 2 days ago! The vines are draped off the front and top of my tank, looks awesome. Just takes a few hours.

well i grabbed some anubias nana and water wisteria today defintly not cheap for live plants...... 20 bucks for the two of em :( if this dont work im likely going to try something else maybe the purigen nitrate remover in my fx5

I would like to add hornwort is a good plant for reducing nitrate and it is very hardy.
The only problem with plants is that you have to constantly remove dead parts.

well i only grabbed 2 as they are VERY expensive !! and they also spread as well, so maybe in a month there will be alot of it in there... all i was told was that when or if i see roots coming up threw my sand or whatever to just bury it under the sand or put a rock on it to hold it down, and it will start a new plant, is that the way to go ?

yes i saw hornwort all though it looks VERY messy if my fish decide to eat and destroy it ...

The wisteria will spread fast, but doubt the Anubias will. At least you chose two very hardy plants! But look into plants that just the roots go into the water, like me and others mentioned before. These are the easiest, least messy, and really good at absorbing nitrates
