how high are too high of nitrates ??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
do these plants just grow roots and then the root starts as a new plant or how do you get the bushy look to them like i see in images from google...and i have sand substare so if or when i see a root poppig up threw the sand do i just re bury it in the sand till it starts to sprout as a green stem like lookig thing or ??

ive also thought about just some reg bamboo in some HOB if i can find some cheap somewere as i dont have any lol ...

The wisteria will spread fast, but doubt the Anubias will. At least you chose two very hardy plants! But look into plants that just the roots go into the water, like me and others mentioned before. These are the easiest, least messy, and really good at absorbing nitrates

Lucky bamboo isn't ideal for n03.

I spent 17$ and I can't even see the top of my tank, its already covered!

Op: you don't have to fully submerge them in water, it grows better when the roots are submerged only. I cut a perfect square in my top and simply dropped the aqua plant baskets in, about 4" on the basket is submerged.

well lets both hope it spreads and grows like a mother trucker lol .... but yea i will prolly change to a HOB filter with them in it if i cant keep ethem i my tank with my fish... i was told my the guy i bought em from that the westeria needs ALOT of light to grow tho,

^ he's talking about bamboo/water lettuce/pothos etc, not the plants you got. Yours are completely submerged. The Anubias will grow better if it can attach to a solid object, like driftwood or a rock. Use fishin line to tie it to something, and let it grow. The wisteria can be grown floating or in your substrate. Also dosing with excel's flourish is very beneficial to aquatic plants and I highly recommend it.

Edit: just saw your reply above, the wisteria can grow in about any light, but will definetely grow faster with proper lighting, look into t5 HO lighting if you want to improve your lighting.

lol i do have a t5h0 lighting :p hahaha

and yea im waiting to find the right peice of wood for my tank yet, would look cool as heck with some wood in the tank and some plants growing off it ... i think that looks awesome found a few but trying to work out picking them up and i have a peice waiting to get water logged in my laundry room sink, been in there for awhile lol

Oh I thought this was to lower n03...which pothos are great!

That's how it started, I think it switched to how to keep the plants he just bought alive.

Anyways, to the op, try surface plants (pothos, water lettuce, bamboo) or more aquatic plants. I got an amazon sword maybe two weeks back, and it is huge already with a crazy root system, I like to think its sucking out nitrates effectively.

Im going o try the pothos and stick it in my hob filter laying around! as for anubias plants, theyre awesome low light plants.. I had 1 now I have 4 keeps getting bigger and bigger and needing to cut due to space in 75g.

Pothos is great. You don't even have to buy any if you can get a hold of some clippings. Also using RO water might help, but can be a pain to setup and store the water.
