how i do water changes

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
chris.. i dident relize you shut it off... i use to leave it on and waste alot of water.

I attach a hagen powerhead to a U tube i made from pvc pipes. The U tube hangs over the aquarium with the power head inside the aquarium and the other end connected to a python hose. When the pump starts the water exits via the python. And i never have to worry about draining a tank cuz the U only entends so far into the tank.

Yes it works well that way but now that I'm doing water changes on a 125, 150, 180, and a 55 it is getting time consuming when I let the natural siphon do its work. I may have to try your way after I buy a pump. I have an extra 200 gph pump but I'm not sure it would be much faster than the python. I'm gonna have to buy a 600-900 gallon one, especially since I have a "monster tank" in my near future.

thats what i like to hear ...

the pump i have now im going to use on my 75 as a w/d pump... then ill buy a larger pump for water changes

Wow zack thats very similar to the way I do water changes. Only I use a stronger pump and old school marine land 1000 gallon pump. I dont even bother hooking the python up tp the sink I just pump the water out the window and into my flowerbeds. Then I hook it up to my sink and fill the tank as needed. Works well considering I am doing changing on tanks up to 350 gallons. Also saves money on water.

A 45% change & gravel vac on my 180s take all of 15 mins.

Water goes straight from the tank onto the lawn/gardens through a garden hose. Then I just fill up through the hose again.

No need to waste time or money using a pump.

im in a basement.... so if it goes out a window its not gunna siphon......

I got a pyton recently, think its great,Ive always been a bucket brigade guy,so ive started doing pushups on the refills to make up for all the exercise im missing out on. :grinyes:
