how i do water changes

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
is sucking on the end of the hose bad for ur health? it leaves a bad taste in my mouth so i stopped doing it. i learned to start the syphon by filling up the end of my vac w/ water and then holding it up so it drains then before it empties i put the vac underwater then the syphon starts. i'm getting a python for x-mas though.

i have a question, what is the diameter of the tubing used by a python?

I wouldnt recommend it if your tank has nemotodes (worms) they can be transfered to a human ,thats why you shouldnt drink the water in third world countrys lot of things in water certainly in a closed system

inside 1/2" outside 3/4"

Iv done it dosen't taste the best!!! IM still kicking!! :grinyes:

LOL

almost the same way i do it i hate the python i use a pump hooked to it then i take the pump and place it in the 2 5 gallon buckets that have treated water in them works great

I also use a pump to drain the water. It's a 500 gph pump connected to pvc pipe in a shape of a "U" so it can hang right on the tank. Saves alot of time when dealing with tanks above 200 gallons. I got the idea from jehmco.com with their 'safety siphon' contraption.

As for the python, I think you waste one gallon for every 6-8 gallons drained.

I too have my tanks in the basement, so I'll continue to
use my python. I do not suck on hoses.
