I know that my employer has already told us that our health insurance is increasing again, and the insurance company tells us it's due to Obamacare... And I'm already paying the most I ever have, for the least coverage I've ever had...

The outcome of this shutdown/debate/whatever could directly affect the cost of medical care for me and my son...

give it a little time .. I am convinced that subsidies and market equalization will be your long term friend,, don't take gossip as gospel take time to get on the website and CALL the helpline people that will be provided,,your taking time to do this will surely pay off:)

LOL!

I personally know a number of people who have never had health insurance, but take their kids to the ER for every little sniff and sniffle, knowing that they weren't going to pay the bill when it arrives. The hospital is forced to treat everyone in the ER no matter if they can pay the bill or not. That is why my insurance premiums have been raising at a rate much much higher than inflation or my raises have been able to keep up with. It's the insured among us who are already paying for the uninsured.

If you haven't noticed, your premiums have most likely been increasing each year for some time:

...........................

So blaming it on Obamacare is pretty much BS.

People are becoming the "trade-offs" in this, when losing freedom of choice.
Portraying yourself as being qualified to inform does not ring true, without being subjected to these realities yourself.
Go to the website and choose it for yourself, if you believe what you endorse.

It's a slap in the face hearing public employees (county, state, federal jobs), whose paycheck and health coverage are completely paid for by everyone elses' tax dollars tell me that I should be OK with losing my freedom of private health care. I haven't cost them/you a dime.
The same cannot be said to me by the publicly employed.
Which of us has really paid to be responsible for our healthcare, in this picture?

I do already know 3 people immediately benefitting from these mandated changes. All under 26 yrs of age. Their parents employed by federal, state or county monies. Adult kids added back onto parental health policies.
Tax funded. How ironic.
That is wonderful & respectable, but you call working people who need some public assistance "irresponsible".
How about everyone gets forced into the exact same limited choices & cost rates...why not?? Mandate buying into the 'exchanges' equally. It would help balance the Federal budget if employees carried financial responsibility for their own health plans.
OUCH, eh?
Go to your state site and SHOP for yourself. Try on those shoes.
The people, IMO, who have really earned exemption are Veterans.

Another thing: when buying private insurance, it was just that, a purchase. I never had to hand over my tax returns, just pay for the plan I could afford to choose.
This system demands your IRS statements, no matter what "metal" level. not just to get approved for subsidized lower cost plans.
Connecting the IRS with personal health care.. not my choice.

Some people consider quotes from actual news article as evidence. Which is more accurate: An opinion that health insurers stock prices are going up...or the actual stock quotes?

Health coverage of those who work for the government is far from "completely paid for by everyone elses' tax dollars". Just like most folks who have employer-based health coverage, federal employees - including members of Congress and their staffs - pay a portion of their premiums out of pocket. It's far from free and primarily delivered through private health insurers (e.g. Kaiser Permanente, United Healthcare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, etc.).

US employers get tax subsidies to cover their employees, so anyone who pays taxes pays a portion of the health insurance for anyone who's covered by their employer (or covered by Medicaid or other programs).

But that's very different from people choosing to go without health insurance and placing themselves and the rest of us with health insurance at risk. This "free rider" / individual responsibility argument is why (until President Obama advocated their ideas) conservatives have been strong proponents of the individual health insurance mandate and commercial health insurance exchanges. Obamacare is, of course, modeled after Romneycare in Massachusetts (where nearly everyone now has affordable health coverage, delivered through commercial insurers): http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/15/h...e-was-first-backed-by-conservatives.html?_r=0

It can be difficult to remember now, given the ferocity with which many Republicans assail it as an attack on freedom, but the provision in President Obama’s health care law requiring all Americans to buy health insurance has its roots in conservative thinking.

The concept that people should be required to buy health coverage was fleshed out more than two decades ago by a number of conservative economists, embraced by scholars at conservative research groups, including the Heritage Foundation and the American Enterprise Institute, and championed, for a time, by Republicans in the Senate.

The individual mandate, as it is known, was seen then as a conservative alternative to some of the health care approaches favored by liberals — like creating a national health service or requiring employers to provide health coverage.

Explain how you're "losing my freedom of private health care" when the ACA allows you to either stay on your employer's (commercial) coverage, enroll in Medicaid, enroll in private coverage on your own, sign up for a commercial health insurance option through the exchange or choose to pay a relatively small fine and remain uninsured? There are lots of options as a result of the ACA, especially if you have a pre-existing condition!

I personally have not yet been affected by the shutdown yet. Life feels the same to me so far. However, I am extremely angry about it, and my heart goes out to the millions sitting at home without work at the moment.

The shutdown has not affected me at all. However I'm unsure what I'm going to do about my business. I want to hire a couple technicians but I'm concerned about the health coverage. I'm just observing for now until I know more.

Why were all these businesses not providing good employee health benefits to begin with? It's kind of like providing a tank and a light for your fish, but no filtration or no way to test water parameters. It SHOULD be an expected cost of any good business plan. I'm terribly sorry for our lawmakers STRIPPING OUT the public option (the first 'A' in ACA). :(

It's because providing insurance for employees is damn expensive. Way to expensive for most small businesses just trying to stay afloat.
