As of this morning, most of the communities along the Iowa and Cedar Rivers here in Iowa are at levels that exceed that of any previous records set. The Cedar River here in Cedar rapids is at 20.1 feet, and it's expected to crest at 24.5 feet Friday. This doesn't take into account the rain in the forecast for the next two days. 1 to 3 inches of rain are expected from a strong storm system ranging from Minnesota to Missouri. Some areas of Eastern Iowa may see as much as 5 inches of additional rain from this storm!

hawkfish, looked at the radar a little while ago and iowa and minn are just covered in yeall and dark green!!!! here in wi we are expected to get 1-3 inches of rain on thursday. more flooding on top of what we have now :(

I'm looking out my office window and things are getting pretty dark. We really don't need anymore rain in the Midwest.

On top of all the flooding. Food prices are expected to jump because all the rain is effecting the corn production. Many farmers are expecting lower than projected yields this year. Add that to the fact that demand for corn is already high due to the fuel crisis, and the outlook all around is bleak.

yeah, there are entire fields here that are under about 10 feet of water...its gonna be a rough summer all around here between crappy crops, houses getting flodded out, and all the business loosing revenue from the lake draining. sooo if anyone wants to help, make their vacation this year to the dells lol. still lots to do besides the lake

with all the wet weather, the mosquitos are going to be horrendous! :nilly: :irked: :(

 I didn't even think about that!

Dozens of tornados within 50 miles of my house, 70 MPH straight line winds, 3 inches of rain in the last 48 hours, Missouri is breaching its banks, Lakes are almost flooded. We went to look at the Missouri on Sunday and we went over the bridge in Rulo, Nebraska, the bridge closed minutes after we crossed, scared the shizzle outa me....

This is some crazy stuff! OK, my girlfriend just called and told me that at Cargill, they are saying that with the forecast rains over the next two to three days the river should crest at around 27 feet! Now, the official forecast is for the Cedar to crest at 24.5 feet. To give you an idea of what I'm talking about, the floods in '93 that made national news only got to a level of 19.6 feet.

One of my co-workers has a friend that works in the Cedar Rapids Chamber of Commerce that sent her an email saying that they've activated the 500 year flood plan. The map that outlines this plan shows massive flooding. What a disaster!
