What type of pellets. I have been looking for a good pellet for my turtles but have yet to find any. What I have found always have some type of wheat or corn or soy or animal products. Nothing that is just veggie and fish based, so my turtles normally get just fresh stuff. They will not take romaine lettuce or squash :(

I give mine ReptoMin sold by tetra. It isn't the best but I feed other foods too. I feed my turtles vegetables after a day or 2 of no food. I find that they are less picky when they are hungry.

That is what I feed mine.

I am debating about getting some convicts. I want to keep them something to chase, but I am worried about the amount of thiaminase in minnows and goldfish

I have some of my res with convict cichlids. The convicts are 4ish inches and the 3 turtles are 2.5 to 4 inches. The convicts are both males and fight with the turtles sometimes.

I tried that before. no more convicts haha

so the convicts have to be in a different tank for me haha

How large were the turtles that ate the convicts? In my tank the 2 convicts aren't afraid of the turtles at all! I love it.

One was 4 inches the other was 4.5-5 inches (shell)

Interesting. Around the same as mine. Were your convicts small? Mine are almost full grown. I have also had a firemouth with them but the convicts we nasty so I took out the firemouth.

Mixed sizes. I thought the babies would just get eaten, but the turtles took at the convicts that were just shy of the same size as them. They just took pieces out of them. Which is odd since my turtles normally can't hit shrimp when I hand feed them shrimp, but they can hunt a fish very easily. It must be that they are used to moving items?

I think the gf will let me get another tank and grow some convicts so my turtles can have a fresh moving treat

Wish me luck haha

If you want to keep your fish alive longer I would put a piece of drift wood and some caves that the turtles can't fit in.

They weren't smart enough to go in the clay pots or around the driftwood pieces.
My male turtle tries to mate with the driftwood and also the heater once and awhile. The filter in and out take as well :(
