dec. or not...

given a stable temp. wouldnt the rays have died spending all that time packed up anyways??? (just curious)

Nah. Most fish are in the bags 48+ hours during Importation. This is alot of the reason that Stingrays being sold by wholesalers are in bad condition, is because they don't take the time to re-coop them after this traumatic experience.

As long as the stingrays are 'fasted' before shipment, and temperature isn't an issue (which it is in the winter), than 2-3 days in the bag wouldn't be automatic death.

Lesson #2) Ultimate Packaging is futile when holiday madness delays shipment.

No courier is safe in December. Not even A2A.

You can ask Fedex, UPS, DHL.. or maybe ask the Bolt Cat, P. Niger, and misc. other fish that lost their lives due to courier error during the holidays.

I wouldn't so much blame it on DHL as I would blame it on attempting to ship fish within 4 weeks of Christmas.. They have 10x the workload during this month, and errors are quite common.

WRONG!!! It is completely DHL's fault!!!
I ordered a a replacement radio for a customers car yesterday at about 1:00pm and it was shipped out via DHL 2 DAY. It is sitting here right now!!!

Pay for overnight=get one week delivery... Pay for 2 day=get overnite delivery???

NOT DHL's FAULT MY ASS!!!

haha... thats funny Chad! Its all there fault! I paid $300 for this overnight shipment!. And for them to loose the boxes. And Say they didnt make the plane? Then why did it take 5 days to get the boxes back to me?

Man...sorry for the loss, sue DHL! The seller is a reputable ray keeper that has made many people happy and is honest enough to be here posting and not hiding behind secretive e-mails like many others, good for you!

If I ever need leo's or higher end rays, I would not hesitate to contact this seller.
Don't blame the seller, or buyer, blame the shipper who accepted the charge, and didn't deliver. Just my oppinion.

I would close the thread before it becomes a free for all on personal attacks, and tarnishes peoples reputation...

I know this thread is not at all slamming Brad, and I don't want to take away from you lost Leos...that is brutal and I am sorry to hear. I did want to express what I know about the seller:

When I was getting some Pearls off him he did say by email that he only ships airport to airport and anything else was at buyers discretion. I know this as I was trying to find a way to get the rays over the boarder prior to him selling them all. I have had 2 "almost" dealings with him and hopefully will get it to work this time. With both he has been nothing but helpful, honest and accomodating. It is probably in a seller nature to be accomodating. It is human nature. Personally I think that DHL should pay, but probably won't. I once lost a bunch of livestock to couriers and all I got was a sorry we shouldn't ship live animals.

Anyway, very sorry to hear about your loss and hopefully it does work out.

Honestly.. You guys should of thought twice about shipping fish in December.. Especially $3k's worth.

I understand it's DHL's fault once the box was placed in their hands, but the initial idea was hazardous, especially through a private courier when you don't know the EXACT details of insurance policies with live animals. I bet we will all think twice about shipping fish around the holidays in the future.. ?

No offense to either party. Brad is a great seller.

PS. You won't see a dime. If each 'screwed-up' airport/courier claim I had coming back to me went through smoothly, I'd have a new car.

I agree with Miles, i dont think either of you are going to get any Monies. Fed-ex lost a fish shipment (still not found) and they told me "oh well". Any-hoot, G/L:)
