I was curious as to how long most of you leave your lights on, I have mine come on from about 10-5, but I noticed that since I dont come home until about 5 I miss my tanks even being on. Would it be alright to keep them on later til about 7 or 8, and when should I initially turn them on and whats a good time to turn them off?

Mine come on at 8 am. Then brighten up at 11am. Dim down at 6pm, then off completely at 11pm.
I am out from 9-5. So i like to see them!

Thanks for the quick reply, also as a side note none of my tanks are super bright, all have standard one bulb flourescent fixtures.

My tanks are in my garage which is hot in the summer time and cold in the winter time so the lights only come on during feeding time in the summer and they stay on most of the time in the winter to help with the heating. I am able to keep my temps in a good range this way and not have to overload my tanks with heater that are expensive to run.

6 hours every day (1pm-7pm) for a fish only cichlid tank, sometimes I leave them on longer when I have guests over. My tank gets indirect natural sunlight all the time so the lights are purely for my viewing pleasure. The fish do fine with the dim natural light and they probably prefer that instead of the bright leds.
