How long do you wait?

When introducing new agro fish together, how long do you wait for the pecking order to be re-establish until you give up?

I have a hard time with this because I hate seeing fins getting nipped and torn apart! Especially when the fishes are very expensive! How long do you wait knowing and observing this happen with your fish?

Do you wait a hours? day? Week? etc?

me personally i give them 1-2 hours with close observation. i know someone though that after 10 min up goes a divider There have been times though when i just wait it out and eventually things calm down.

I just throw em in and hope for the best. For example, when I had Raider, all fish that i knew would mess with Raider i kept an eye on. If any of Raider's tankmates got a lil too aggro for my taste they got tossed out to the cats. Raider was the king of the tank, but i helped him out from time to time when it came to any threats.

all depends on the fish.

i recently introduced a small (4"ish) female flowerhorn in with my big jack demp in a 75 gallon. He never took to the idea of sharing his space with her too kindly. I eventually gave her away as he never left her alone and she never got to eat even after 3 day.

before that i introduced a smaller 2"ish male festae. Jack never bothered the damn thing and they always swam together.

i now have a monster 6-7"ish male convict with him, im starting to think hes homosexual.

I guess its eventually up to the owners comfortability level...

Guess I need to just keep telling myself that the torn fins, etc. will heal up eventually.

Thou like I said I hate doing it!!!!

I give it a few days sometimes less with large fish its usually less time when they start getting torn fins or scales start flying then i divide them heal them up and try it again but sometimes fish just never work together

Heres another question for people who wait days, just an example would you wait days IF knowing that each fin nip decreases the value of your fish by hundreds of dollars?

It depends on how bad the fighting is. If its gills flaring etc maybe a day or 2. If its a knock down drag out war could be minutes.

I don't like the fish to be harmed at all. If one is getting picked on, he gets powerfed until he's large enough to tango.
