How long does new fish fighting go on

If you only have a GT and a Texas in a 150 you could always add more fish... I've found it way easier to keep SA/CA cichlids together with 4-8 fish verses just a couple. How big are the two you have?? Also, as already brought up to you, it might not ever work as these things sometimes just don't work regardless of what you do... each fish has a different personality. Good luck.
I may end up doing this but scared of Over stocking due to 3x 12 in bichirs and 1x 4 in on the bottom

For some reason I had the same issue with a GT and Texas . The texas beat the heck out of the GT even though the texas was new . I gave up on that combo. Although they would look great together I doubt they will ever get along .

um, damn fish, bout to put a buttikoferi my friend has in there at let go at it lol, no but oh well

yea, lol i bought a cute 2 in tiger tilapia long ago, 15 in later and a 125 with dead fish, he was like the Joker from the Darknight. lol he was a crazy psycho

Lol I can't put anything in with my butti but he is so cool I don't mind him being alone. Good luck on mixing though can be a real pita.

Mixing Centrals and SA cichlids can sometimes be a problem. You may end up with the Oscars and GT is one tank and the Texas and JDs in the other.

I agree with jiant2520 that more cichlids can spread around the aggression. Convicts are a good bet on the Central American side, though if you end up with a pair, all of your larger fish will end up pinned in the corners - not so tough any more LOL! Of course, they may end up as lunch for the large bichirs. Among South Americans, a small group of mouth-brooding geos could distract things also.

Alternatively, a school of silver dollars would look nice, occupying the upper levels of the tanks and serve as both targets and dithers.

Good luck!
