I'm on duanes heels with 53 years in the hobby. In that time I've gone wading, netting, swimming, snorkeling, and diving in over 60 countries to observe fresh and marine fishes in their native environments.

Well....
I was born in the aquarium hobby. My dad had been keeping fish way before I was born.
So I grew up around tropical fish. I learned a lot from my dad. Most of the weekends growing up where trips to the LFS all through out New England and it's where I learned about all the different species of fish, and learned fish from a lot of the owners. When the owners give information when your'e 7, 8, 9, 10 years old you'd expect to not remember it but to this day I do and use some of it.
I got my first aquarium when I was 12 years old. It was a 55 gallon aquarium and I kept the wrong fish in it. I had a oscar, pacu, red devil, and pleco, typical teenager.
So I have been keeping fish for 12 years. I've been a hobbyist for 12 years and still learning and I love learning about fish and researching.
