Is the tank acrylic or glass?? Sometimes tannins leach into the acrylic and it never goes completely crystal again..

wow, i've heard people say it could take a year or more, but figured those were for the worst type of woods for driftwood.

Yea i have maybe close to 60-70 pounds of driftwood. Easy. Its went from brown to pee but its getting a lil annoying. I really like having a very clear tank.

If you don't mind replacing and replenishing it all the time.... Buy Purigen.

I'm crystal clear.

What does the purigen do?? I mean like what its it meant for? Is it a polisher?

Something I've done that worked.

1. Dry the wood out.

2. Go to work on it with a drill. I used paddlebits and regular bits drilling out every inconspicuous knot and whole I could find. Start small and work your way up. Interconnecting holes as you go where ever possible.

3. I tossed mine into the pond for a week to soak, sink, and color.

4. Bigger than any pot... I bought a foil baking tray, filled it with water, added the wood, wrapped the lot with a roll of foil and I threw it on the grill for hours.

5. A few overnights soaking in the utility sink (I have a stainless utility outside)

diatom filters work great! But the if the tannins are still being released then its going to be a long battle. Maybe if you could take it out and boil it that would slow it down/stop it

Well my 50gal is like weak tea fron Tannins been set up a year and bit.

My water is CRYSTAL clear :) The parameters are all stable :) Though the tannic color is there:) But you can see through the long way all the way to the end of my back yard crystal clearly :)

So it's all good.. It's just not asthetically pleasing to some :) But I love it, My tank has a natural look to it.. :)
