How Long Have You Been Fishkeeping...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Cramming goldfish for a few years(~5 y/o at the time). 100% water changes w/overnight aged water, no idea how often. No gravel, decor, or filter for a long time. I had 14 of them, but most of them died when my sis turned off the air pump(didn't know it was attached to the power switch) by accident. I had 2 alive for a couple of years before they died.

Other than that, I started in Jan 2009 probably. Found MFK at the very end of Feb. when I was going to buy a 55g and wanted to research cichlids(oscars mainly).

Thanks to my dad I grew up knowing fish. The first fish I can remeber is my dad's silver arowana and oscar. I had to be 7 or 8. As soon as I showed a little intrest that man tried to shove every little bit of info he knew into my head. Of course... in one ear right out the other. I didn't care about how to keep them at the time, only how cool it was to watch them. So not much expirence gained there, only love for the fish. I had a few years of that.
Things happend and I didn't have fish anymore. Around 19 I picked it back up with a fire mouth in a 10g and 9 years later, at 28 I have 3 tanks (running), the largest being 225G, with anything from Oscar, to Green Terror, to Vieja, to Motaguense, to Managuense, to Polini cichlids. I love it! My IQ?... supper low. Im sure i could read all day and never know enough. I read that being an active member of this site might raise it a little though. :)

Been keeping fish for about a year and a half now. Started off at college and bought myself a 29g. Threw in a large pleco, angel fish, koi, 3 or 4 african cichlids, and a cray fish.:screwy: what a noob I was (still am)

Needless to say they all died, my pleco however lived up until about a week ago.

I have been learning ever since. with the help from this site and Aquaria central I could never learn enough. IQ is about a 1.

I started not too long ago, about April/May '08. The only type of fish that really interests me are Datnoids, though I still have a lot to learn about them. They are not the easiest fish to keep, especially because it can be tough to get them to eat dry foods, and they need large tanks. I even got a job at a LFS, though I only work there sporadically since I have three jobs total and attend college part-time. My fish IQ is not high, but definately is better off after discovering MFK!

I already have my 120 setup, and I hope to pick up a 240 soon! After that I can relax a bit.

great fishkeeping stories.. keep them coming.. some of you have alot of experience.. some of you just starting... very interesting..

ive been keepin native saltwater inverts for a month.
you'd be surprised just how interesting a 10gal tank with a baby spider crab, quahog clam, and softshell clam can be. the tank's got a 2 inch sand bed, hopefully gonna be a 3-4 inch sand bed by tonight... since one of the clams is too big to completely bury itself...
but now whenever i go to the beach all i wanna do is find more clams for the tank!:nilly:
i plan on adding mud snails to the tank as well. if you keep saltwater, than youll understand when i say that theyre a freshwater version of nassarius snails.. they live under the sand and come up out of the ground like zombies when you put food in the tank, and go back down again when the food's gone.

awesome keep the stories coming.. whether your a noob or experienced ..we want to hear it all
