How Long Have You Been Fishkeeping...

12 years for me. I've kept a ridiculous number of different species in that time span (there was a time when I was getting new fish on a monthly basis), but I never really started doing a significant amount of research on the fish I kept until 2009, when I joined MFK. So the fish that I know a lot about are mainly just those that I have either kept, or been interested in since then. As for fishkeeping knowledge in general, I'm definitely still learning, as I would hope I always will be.
I think no matter the years one has been keeping fish, they'll always be learning. So do I think I'm still learning? Yes, of course, and I got quite a bit to learn still lol

I have gravitated toward the "Ancient" fish species (Gar, Knives, Bichirs, Sturgeon & Bowfin).
I do not follow the "IQ" in fishkeeping though. I do not fully understand "IQ" and am probably way off track trying to analyze it. I do understand the concept of aptitude. I was under the impression the IQ was a general measure of the ability to assimilate data, and was measured on a scale of 0 - 200. I was unaware that overall IQ changed within an individual as related to a "specialized" area of interest.
It appears that a scale of 1 - 10 is being employed to determine an "IQ" number as related to the specialized field of fishkeeping. Given the access to the data and required time I am positive that I can assimilate the data. I have done so in every aspect of life.
If I am to attempt to gauge my progression of assimilation of the entire Fishkeeping data as a whole I would grade myself a 0.05 out of 10.00!

Hello; I think I started keeping aquariums around 1958, for sure by 1959. Had a few short periods without a tank set up, but still have one of the first tanks. It had an angle iron frame that was painted black with white lines in a random pattern. The frame rusted away years ago. I kept it together with silicone which came out many years after I started.
for me about 11 years but really started learning alot the past 2 or 3 years(thanks to MFK). i ve kept everything from goldfish to RTC, community fish to killers, i love them all and hope to pass the hobby on to my daughter.
