How long should i starve my Armatus?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
im gonna try cutting up the feeders tonight and see if he eats them.

if he does i will start cutting it up with my smelt and shrimp. after a while hopefully he wont be able to tell the diff.

i was also wondering if i would be able to find whole smelt, head and everything.

maybe if it looks like a feeder it might help.

try cutting off the heads of the dead feeders. i've heard fish attack when they see the feeders eyes. so removing the head would probably train the armatus to take preped food, with some sort of familiarity.

Trev,

I used to live in Royal Oak for three years when I was at school in downtown Detroit. next time I am up your way, I want to come over and see this beast!

Have you maybe tried just dropping in live feeders at the exact same place in the tank every time? I have to think that if you held the feeders while alive half in the water in the same place so he had to come up to you to get them (and after a while, he would), you could then start to filter in a few pieces of shrimp in with the feeders. Eventually he'd recognize you as his food source, as mine does now, and when he sees that I have something white in my hand he knows to go to the upper part of the tank and wait for me to drop the shrimp in now.

I think this would work for you.

i thought it would work too.

when i drop a dead feeder in, he strikes it so fast i cant believe he knows what it is.

then i will drop something else in thinking he will strike it just as quick but it dosnt work.

he always follows me through the glass, hes just stubborn.

im real close to R.O.

drop me a line when ur around

that is gonna be in one of my next steps, to make the feeder look like a prepared smelt . thanks

i dunno about armatus.
but my redtail starved himself for almost a mth.
my scomb wouldnt take dead for a mth plus.
so i didnt feed him until he took dead.

its amazing how long they can go w out eating. i found w redtails and scombs its easyier to get them rely fat and healthy first then starve them.

i got some whole sardines yesterday and he tried to eat it but it was too big.

im getting whole smelt on wednesday, im pretty confident he will eat them because it looks like a fish.

finally, he took down a few shrimp.

the first 2 i threw in front of the powerhead and he took them down real fast.

then he passed up a few, then he examined one and ate it very slow.

i think the dead feeders helped alot.

goodbye expensive feeders!

ill get some pics up soon
