First time posting here in a long time, trying to reignite a bit of my passion for the hobby...

Lately I've been completely "meh" about my tank, yep that massive one that only a little while ago was my life long dream-build finally coming to fruition, and now I'm already thinking about tearing it down. Yesterday I figured out why when this pic popped up on my Facebook feed as being a memory from four years ago...

Holy sh!! Four years already! In the twenty years I've been keeping fish this is the longest period I've ever had one tank continuously running for. And further more, it's nearly been three years since I sold my aro and went down the 'monster community' route with angels and tetras etc, which is the longest I've ever kept a single "theme" (for want of a better word) going in one tank.

No wonder I'm bored with it!!!

Today I pulled apart the big pile of wood to do a thorough clean, and a stocktake on my plecs (still got 6 out of the 7 tiny L85s that went in there nearly 3 years ago). I contemplated the future of the the tank and decided to persevere with it, maybe change up the stocking a little. In the mean time here's a couple of current pics, as it is this morning.

It also got me wondering about how much of the fun in this hobby is the excitement of doing something new, setting up a tank, re-scaping, new fish etc etc. So how old is your longest-running set-up? Both in terms of equipment and unchanged stocking? Is three years unchanged a good run or do I just have a short attention span....

I've been running my tanks between 2 months and a year between the 3 and have been rescaping for a good portion of that time and only adding fish to fill it up

Yep...totally remember you from back then. I recognize the tree stump you harvested. I think you visited the west coast for a wedding and was looking for fish stuff and beer. Unless that was someone else.

Totally dig the "MONSTER COMMUNITY!" Lol:D Exactly what I'm working on, but not so monster.

The longest tank I have running is my 75g tank. I believe I got it back in 2003. Tank, Stand, one of the Filter (Fluval 405), and Black Sand are still the original.

I struggled with keeping the same fish for more than 8 months. I wanted to change the theme, try new fish, bored of certain fish, etc. After so many different fish, I just realized some of the fish I kept in the past were fish I kept hovering back to. So eventually, I just decided that those were the fish I was just going to keep. A few of my Bichirs are over 9 years old...oldest being my little 7" Albino Sen in the 75g. I also have a 7 year old Royal Pleco.

That is an awesome tank bro and no wonder not much has changed it is a real nice scape to look at. I get bored fast or end up selling or trading fish just to keep me interested. I've been working on my peaceful cichlid community tank for a year now and was close too switching to goldfish but then decided to switch the decor and just get rid of the bossy fish and try new ones.

That is an awesome piece of DW!!! I have tried many, many different looks...themes..stock.. and the one thing I always go back to is having one centerpiece and a bunch of 'other' fish to help keep the setup interesting. Drop the peaceful fish crap... this is MFK!!! haha j/k

Sounds a long enough time to me! I have an appallingly short interest span as there are so many ideas I want to try and only have the two tanks (220g and 100g) so after a few months I have to resist the temptation to move onto the next crazy idea! The longest I have had a set up is 2.5 years which is my fahaka community tank and even then that has had an upgrade from 100 to 220g. I still have to fight the urge to try something new and the only reason I haven't is I cannot face getting rid of my fahaka as I grew her from the size of a pound coin to the 17-18 inch beast she is now. But I think you are due for a new idea and full rescape... is there anything crazy that you wanted to try? You have the space for pretty much anything... accept snakeheads sadly as you are in the US (otherwise that would have been my first suggestion).

As a follow on from the above how about African tiger fish? One of my dream fish and make snakeheads look down right peaceful.
