How many Africans in my 180?

Not a day goes by that I'm not thankful that the manager at the LFS turned me on to Africans. I have about 27 Africans in my 55, and I haven't lost one yet. I'm slowly getting rid of the fish in my 125 in hopes of setting up a killer Malawi tank in the not-too-distant future. Monster fish are cool and all, but setting up a beautiful AND healthy community tank is much more fulfilling, in my opinion.

Think of it this way: 1 in. per gallon. So if you have a 180 gal. tank, you can have 180 in. of cichlid.

That's a big cichlid!!!!!

I am not quite there yet, but how much filtration do you need to add to handle such a load?

what size does your average african cichlid grow to? if its 6" i'd divide that number(180) by 6. your logic would work with neon tetra's though
