How many can I have in a 100 gal

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Def go the 4X2 footprint. I had this size for years. At least your big guys will have room to turn

I would honestly say hold off on buying more for the moment. IMO I would rather have a larger tank to put them all in even if it's only for 2 years. Most of them if not all are going to grow a considerable amount. I would wait to add some maybe even like stated above trade or sell some. It seems like it's going to happen right now but you really don't know what will happen in 2 years so I would stick with the ones you have right now in a 4x2 (if you can find a cheap 6x2 or something like that that would be even better) until you have the larger tank ready to put the fish in or extremely close. Either way I'd say hold off for now and put them in a 4x2

As soon as my girl graduates college as a rn we movin ....the only ones is be willing to part with is the weeksii and the ornate ( cause I never see him at all) i understand that 2 years is awhile from now anything can happen .... I just really want the other 4 on my top list;( bichirs r like crack to me lol I just can't get enough haha

I was in the same boat, so i divided my lower jaws, big ornate and teugelsi into the 180 and my upper jaws and my 12" faranah lap to a 75.

Your boat may sink 2 years down the road if your not in a new house with a 300+ gallon tank. I wouldnt be buying so many lower jaws atm and just enjoy the ones you have. Once you do get the huge tank then i would start looking for new additions :D Unless you can tell the future you cant be certain you will be upgrading and then you will have to get rid of all your large bichirs.

Well I mean (if) they do outgrow me b4 I can get the huge tank I could always just sell my less favorite ones and get some more smaller sized ones ...could I not

you must keep in mind though your more favorite ones will grow as well. What will you do with them if they out grow you? I think the thing everyone is trying to say is you can't honestly say where you will be in 2 years so you need to treat it as if you don't know if you will be gettin a larger tank. Sure you are planning on it, but as young as you are there may be other things you could put that money towards. I know I was in the same boat as you a couple years ago. I had about 25 bichirs in a 75g tank (6-7 were 10"+), because set-back after set-back my larger tank kept either being delayed delivery or was needing to be fixed. Before you know it I'm 6 months from when I was supposed to get my tank and I still didn't have it. Take any of our advice or not, if I was in your boat I would be happy with what I have for now and wait to get more until I am getting the bigger tank in the immediate future.

As young as I am lol I'm 25 lol I understand what u guys are saying ... That y I made this thread is to ask for the opinions of the ones on here that has been through this and has had a lot of experience ... I can honestly say I no quite a bit about bichirs from researching and reading and asking questions but I don't no about a lot of the stuff first hand because I haven't experienced it for myself .... I'm not new to bichirs but I am relatively new to the lj ones as I got my first lj maybe 6 month ago .... I am taking everyone's advice into much consideration and I thank u for it ... I knew I was getting close to the limit for now if not surpassing my limit... that is the reason for this thread
