How many Cichlid in a 65 gallon tank (36"Lx25"Hx17"w)

+1 on cleaning filters ^^, at least canister filters. They are nitrate factories. It's not a bad thing, because that is the end product of biological filtration. But the nitrates have no where else to go other than the tank, so you must remove them.
A year ago my nitrates were rising. I was only cleaning my FX5 out once a month. Found if I clean out once or twice a week with my 2 water changes a week, I can keep my nitrates below 10ppm. They were over 20ppm before. Big difference.
I'd also like to another important benefit to a larger tank is its water volume. In therory, a property stocked larger tank should require less water changes. One day I would like to do an experiment where I keep a single small fish in a large tank and test the results. Just to test how often would you need to do water changes and keep nitrates down.

As far as tank manufacturer, I would recommend looking for a used setup, as a brand new 200-300 gallon will end up costing you over a thousand bucks for sure, and it Is much cheaper to find a large setup used. You may want to re-silicon it, which is not all that hard to do.
If you wanted to buy new, the manufacturers are all pretty much the same IMO. It's just a glass box at the end of the day.

Thanks everyone for all the advice. I just recently replace carbon bags and filter media on my canister and cleaned bio balls and such (with tank water) maybe ill do a cleaning on those tomorrow. But I just did a water change and not sure what happened I ended up losing 2 fish. I tested water levels and everything was okay(but my high nitrates) so not sure what happened there. (have done many water changes and no issues) other 2 fish and minnows all seem fine. am keeping an eye on them. And thanks Gourami Swami Gourami Swami I will look into used tanks.(not sure i would be comfortable to re-silicon though) but Will look into that because new tanks that size are very pricy. Thanks again everyone.
