How many convicts?

I want to start breeding some Convicts to see to the LFS's how many Juviniles soudl I get for a 20 gallon to get some pairs out of?
 
I am getting small juviniles, not large enough for breeding yet...I want them to pair up, how many Juvis shoudl I get? I'm thinking 6-8? Anyone?
 
Honestly, if you get one male juvi and one female juvi they will eventually pair up. Only one pair will fit in the 20g anyway.

Also, are you sure you can sell cons to your LFS? None of the ones in my town will even take them for free, since they're so common.
 
I have already talked to the manager of the store, since they are so popular he will be taking them for $20 for 50. To distinguish males and female the female has a pink belly an I correct? and the males have a longer more pointed dorsal?
 
Females have an orange to red belly. Males have longer fins. A twenty is very small for a growing pair. You should be able to keep one pair in there for a short time but as they grow and breed they will need a larger tank.
 
actually a 20 gal is fine for a pair of convicts. just get one male on female dont matter how big they are they will pair up trust me. think twice before breeding these guys bc then you dont know how to get rid of them lol.

The dorsal doesnt work with cons, my female has a long pointed dorsal, but the pink belly is always correct. Wow $20 for 50, thats easy money.
