How many crappy can i fit into a 36"L X 24"W X 36"H. I am going on a fishing trip in a few week's just for them. Also how many gallon's is the tank? I know it's over 100G but i have never been to sure.

depends of your filtration, fish size and cleaning habits. i wouldnt pack them too densly. they like lots of swimming room

well i had a crappy in my 360 gallon. I would think that tank is to small for 1.

Crappie get quite large. I've personally caught black crappie 18" so I'd say that tank is way too small for even a single fish.

If you're really interested in sunfish, I'd encourage you to investigate orangespotted sunfish, Bluespotted sunfish and the like. They stay very small and are also mild tempered.

I have a 10-11 inch male crappy in my 55 gallon, he is perfectly fine, they are not the most active fish. He tends to hide under my floating drift wood or over some sort of structure, only time to time moving to another area, but are suprisingly quick when food comes (not as quick as sunfish though). However, having 3 may bring up territorial issues, and they would need alot of bottom surface area to set up their sections, or u may get lucky and they all coexist.

Don't do it. Way too small.

Chad

definelty to small, i have heard of some VERY big black crappies, and whites a little smaller.

hmmm ... It will make a nice tank for one crappie, just get one below 8 inches, it would make a nice home with some drift wood and other structures. If you can, try going to a lake where their are stunted fish (small ponds ussually with overpopulation or alot of weeds), this way your not going to end up with a 18 inch monster. In addition males don't grow as big, mine probaly has grown less then a cm over the pass year.

I have two black crappies and a hybrid striper all about 6 or seven inches long . I've had the crappie for well over a year and the wiper about a month now. There is also a 4" channel cat. All of them seem to co-exist fine,no fin biting or bullying that I have seen. Crappies are actually really neat fish.Mine will eat out of my hand. They will eat pretty much anything that fits in their mouth and love to ambush their meals. In the last year mine have gotten alot thicker but have only grown about an inch. The wiper is a neat fish.He will eat earthworms all day long if I was inclined to feed him them.
